Pranayama is the core of all yogic workouts. Its a systematic method to learn to breath properly and enhancing the functional breathing capacities. Along with that pranayama is concerned with controlling the pranic flow in our bodies and allowing for a much better nervous activity. It effects both the physical as well as mental personalities by bringing about a tranquility within the pranic body (energy systems).

Daily pranayama classes at Jeevmoksha provides students with an ample opportunity to understand this science of breath. The instruction and practice allows them to understand and experience their breath rhythms and its connection with their physical and mental states of well being. The sessions are based upon the principles of Hatha and Raj yoga as prescribed for doing pranayama.

Hatha yoga pranayama involves the practice of following techniques:

  • Nadi Shodhan (purification of energy channels)
  • Bhastrika (bellow breath)
  • Suryabhedi (vitality stimulating breath)
  • Ujjayi (psychic breath)
  • Sheetali (cooling breath)
  • Seetkaari (whistling breath)

Raj Yoga pranayama is mainly focused on learning how to regulate the rhythms of breath viz. poorak (inhalation) and rechak (exhalation). Further it also train us in retaining the breath which is called Kumbhak.
